The Browning Automatic 5 (sometimes simplified as "Auto-5"), is an American recoil-operated, semi-automatic shotgun featured in Call to Battle 2.

First produced by FN Herstal, the Browning Auto-5 was the first successful semi-automatic shotgun designed by John Browning.

History

The Browning Automatic 5 was designed in 1898 by John Browning and patented two years later. At that time, Browning approached companies such as Winchester and Remington Arms to produce the shotgun. However the former declined Browning's request, and the latter's president died of a heart attack before he was able to present his design. This forced Browning to look overseas and eventually was able to patent the design to FN Herstal, a firearms manufacturing company in Belgium.

Nicknamed the "Humpback" due to it's distinct high rear end design. The Auto-5 was usually fed from a four round tubular magazine, however Auto-5s with two and five round magazines were also produced. It accepted a variety of gauges predominately 12 and 20 gauge. Production of the Auto-5 by FN Herstal would continue until World War II where production would be headed by Remington Arms.

Used in both world wars by the United States military alongside the Winchester Model 1897, the Auto-5 was considered the "younger brother" of the Model 1897.

In-game

The Browning Automatic 5 is featured in Call to Battle 2 on the American faction, obtainable in the Technician class. Being a shotgun, it is very effective at taking down enemies at close range in a single shot. However because of it's recoil-operated system, the Auto-5 generates unstable recoil when firing rapidly.

It is chambered for 12 gauge buckshot shells like all other shotguns in the mod.

  • Because it is a shotgun it is very reliable at killing enemies in tight corridors.
    • It is possible to kill an enemy from a far away distance, however this is considered unfeasible by most of the community due to damage falloff.
