The Sturmgewehr 44 (abbreviated as "StG 44", also known as "MP 44") is a German selective-fire, assault rifle featured in Call to Battle 2.

Considered the "first successful assault rifle" in the world. About 425,000 StG-44s were produced from 1944 towards the end of the war.

History

The Sturmgewehr 44's design was influenced by existing German weapons such as the Fallschirmjagergewehr 42 as evident by the bolt and framework design. It was developed in response to increasing numbers of Soviet troops using semi-automatic SVT-38 and SVT-40s.

It fired the intermediate 7.92x33mm Kurz cartridge and could fire in fully automatic or semi-automatic mode. According to an account, the name Sturmgewehr was personally chosen by Adolf Hitler for propaganda reasons.

The Sturmgewehr performed well especially on the Eastern Front, however it wasn't enough to halt the Allied advance into Germany. After the war, the Sturmgewehr continued to see service in other countries and insurgencies. It would go on to influence assault rifles that modern militaries use to this day.
