The PPSh-41 (Russian: Пистоле́т-пулемёт Шпа́гина, literally translating to "Shpagin's machine pistol") is an open-bolt, blowback submachine gun featured in Call to Battle 2.

Created as a cheaper alternative to the PPD-40, it saw extensive use by Soviet troops during World War II and became a staple of the Red Army.

Overview

The PPSh-41 was created as a cheap and simpler version of its predecessor, the PPD-40 which was derived from the Finnish Suomi KP/-31.

Usually fed from a 71-round drum magazine, the PPSh-41 is a weapon intended for close-quarters use.

The PPSh-41 became a staple of Soviet engineering, monuments erected in places such as the Eastern Bloc usually have a PPSh-41, it was seen as a symbol of pride.

In-game

The PPSh-41 is featured in Call to Battle 2 as one of the SMGs used by the Soviet faction along with the PPD-40. It is lightweight therefore having little effect on the movement speed as it slows the player's speed down by 7%.

Due to its cartridge, the PPSh-41 has medium damage on enemy players. It's high fire rate creates almost uncontrollable recoil, however using its select-fire mechanism can essentially turn it into a low caliber carbine.

Statistics

Pros

  • Medium damage.
  • Non-obstructive iron sights.

Cons

  • Low reliability
  • Very high recoil thanks to its fire rate.
  • Can empty an entire magazine in seconds.
  • Ineffective at suppressing in fully automatic fire.

Tactics

  • The PPSh-41 is effective at engaging in tight corridors, so aiming with it is futile.
  • It is not recommended to engage enemies far away with the PPSh-41 even when changing it to semi-automatic fire.
    • Instead, switch the PPSh-41 to semi-automatic mode. Making it more effective at suppressive fire.
  • Conserve ammo! The PPSh-41 can empty a magazine in a few seconds thanks to its high firing rate.

Trivia

  • The PPSh-41 received a new model in version 5.2.
  • Despite being an open-bolt submachine gun, it is depicted as having a closed bolt in-game. This may be an oversight.
  • There is a developer-only version of the PPSh-41 that is full gold added a long time ago by an old developer, it has little to no recoil and high damage, for obvious reasons this isn't used in-game by the developers, although interestingly it has a different model to the PPSh-41 too.
    • Both the current PPSh-41 and the developer variant were modelled by AngryLoyer.
