Garapan
Garapan is a map featured in Call to Battle 2. It takes place in and around the village of Garapan during the bloody Battle of Saipan which lasted from June 15th to July 9th 1944.
After the Japanese lost possession of the Solomon Islands, they were left with the Philippines, the Caroline Islands, the Mariana Islands, and the Palau Islands in the Pacific Theater. Originally not part of the American war plan, the Mariana Islands was later judged to be strategically significant because of an airfield located in its second-largest island Saipan which could be utilized for the newly developed long-ranged B-29 heavy bomber. At the time, Saipan was occupied by the Japanese 43rd Division of the 31st Army. The village of Garapan located on the island was caught in the crossfire, resulting in the entire village being destroyed and thousands of its inhabitants killed.
